Celebrant/Officiator
What is a Celebrant?
-
A celebrant is a person who performs and officiates ceremonies of many kinds.
-
A celebrant is non-religious, is not a priest, vicar or person representing a particular religious sect or belief system.
-
The ceremonies are usually spiritual in nature, do not follow a particular religous denomiation and are rooted in humanist values.
-
Celebrant ceremonies are also known as civil ceremonies. A celebrant cannott register the married couple but just officiates the ceremony.
-
A celebrant does not issue marriage, death or birth certificates. Individuals or couples will need to do that through the Registrar. The ceremony is the committment and celebration ceremony.
-
A celebrant works closely with the individual, couple or family to create a meaningful ceremony that incorporates their beliefs, needs and ideas.
-
They can incorporate religious rituals, poems, hymns or other ceremonial activities if the client requires this.
